The Kiwi dilemma: support Hartley or support McLaren?
I’m going with the former. If only because it’ll be too sweet (if a bit hard on Alonso) if Honda engines turn out not to be as shit as we’ve been told - Honda are the real underdogs here.

Also: I thought one of the rules of air displays nowadays was no manoevres over the crowd? Apparently someone forgot to tell the RAAF.

Want to meet up?
After qualifying?

Fully agree. One could say that McLaren stopped being a Kiwi team decades ago.

Sorry, had to bail straight after qualifying - wrangling a bundle of kids and one of them had a meltdown. Looks like I missed a good one in the Supercars too, dammit.

Apart from the odd marketing nod, yes, it stopped in the 80s as the last of Bruce’s contemporaries aged out. Still, one could say the same of Dixon, Bamber, Hartley, or the various guys running in (ex) V8 Supercars. They’ve all moved their careers and their allegiance overseas in search of opportunity, and who can blame them. There’s no “NZ Inc” when it comes to motorsport, unlike for example yachting.

I know pracitally nothing about motorbikes but I’ve read that Britten was such a promising engineer. That was a terrible chance lost precisely for what you say (at least on two wheels).
At least you do have a wonderful motorsport scene. Even if that means that your best talents get poached and end up elsewhere.

Hartley signed my STR hat last year and it’s my prized possession (I’m not Kiwi though). I still can’t believe he’s in F1.
